Why Neighbors Oppose JHL on West 97th Street
• Long-term construction noise, dust and debris would have an immeasurable impact on the health of neighborhood residents, especially those with respiratory problems
• Emergency response vehicle access to 784 and 788 Columbus Avenue will be impeded, as JHL proposes to use the 784 Columbus access driveway for its own ambulances and vehicular traffic
• Increased traffic generated by JHL would further compromise this already congested cross-town street and block, permanently impacting air quality and
noise levels
• To reach the entrance at the back of the proposed nursing home tower, motorists will have to wait to drive responsibly across a 50-foot, heavily trafficked pedestrian sidewalk, which in turn will add to the current West 97th Street congestion and endanger pedestrians on the sidewalk
• JHL's plan is to turn the driveway of 784 Columbus Avenue into their own. There have been no environment impact studies done to show that air flow would clear in this newly created alley
• Our Friday Greenmarket would be disrupted – and possibly permanently displaced
